The Lady Chapel Altar 

This altar is said to have come from the chapel which stood on the site of the present church

The Three light windows above the Altar depicts

 

  • Jesus on the Cross
  • Mary the Mother of God
  • The Beloved Apostle John

 

The three light window to the left of the Altar depicts

 

  • Our Lord’s agony in the garden of Gethsemane
  • The man of sorrows wrestling against the powers of darkness
  • The Institution of the Holy Eucharist

 The Font

The font is of greyish blue marble, the basin is relieved by being inlaid with two bands of marble of a lighter colour. It stands upon two stone steps and around the pedestal are grouped a number of small pillars of alabaster. A brass plate on the upper step bears the inscription:

"This font was the gift of the teachers and scholars of the Shaw Sunday Schools, Trinity Sunday 1869"
Immediately behind the Font is a beautiful piece of mosaic work.The dove is on a gold background, and the border is formed of lilies, springing from vases at each side.

The Reredos in the Sacrarium

The mosaics of the reredos are the work of The Venice and Murano Glass Company.The beautiful mosaic depicts The Risen Lord and his victory over death. The two Roman soldiers who have been keeping guard over the sepulchre have fallen to the ground in fear, and the Angel who has rolled the stone from the tomb is seen on the right
