Baptism is the way into the church

Baptism is all about being 'officially' welcomed to God's Church and accepting the path set out for us to follow Jesus. Water keeps us alive and keeps us clean. In the water of baptism we share a new life in Jesus, and we have a clean start in God's grace.

In the bible we read of families, adults and children, hearing about the Christian faith for the first time. They like what they hear, they want to follow Jesus and so they are baptised.

Although Baptism is considered by many to be for babies, there are also a number of adults who seek to be baptised each year, so that they become a full member of God's church.

Baptism is a 'sacrament' a visible sign of God's love. In baptism, we are thanking God for his gift of life and publicly acknowledging his love. We are acknowledging that we all need to turn away from selfishness and evil and to accept God’s offer of a new start.

At our baptism we promise to renounce evil, to turn to Christ, and to repent of our sins.
We say that we believe and trust in one God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
At the end of the service a candle is given to the newly baptised and we say together "Shine as a light in the world to the glory of God the Father"
